Pitta’s element is fire. As a result, Pitta people can have intense temperament. Pitta is most aggravated in hot and moist climates. Summer and autumn are high Pitta seasons. All hot and humid weather aggravate pitta.
When your Pitta Dosha is unbalanced, you might feel:
- Inflammation in your body or joints
- Skin problems, such as sensitivity to the sun, rashes, acne, cold sores, irritability and freckles
- Gastric or peptic ulcers
- Acidity
- Diarrhea
- Upset easily
- Frustration
- Anger
- Judgement
- Impatience
- Intolerance
- Light-sensitive eyes
To balance Pitta Dosha, avoid:
- Food that is pungent, sour and salty
- Spicy food
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Red meat
- Oily food
- Nicotine
- Gambling
Ayurveda recommends:
- Cooling through cool showers, cool environments and cool drinks (but not ice cold ones)
- Foods that are naturally sweet, bitter and astringent
- Eating fresh raw foods
- Having some cooling herbs and spices, such as coriander, fennel, mint, lemongrass, liquorice and brahmi
- Enjoying coconut products
- Sweet and soothing music, sweet smells and good company
